If you are presently in or are prior military there are two ways to meet the experience requirement established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to receive your testing authorization (FAA Form 8610-2).

1. If you are prior military your DD-214 will indicate your MOS. Your MOS must show that your duties have been in the Airframe and Powerplant for a minimum of 30 months or 18 month in either Airframe or Powerplant or;

2. Provide documentary evidence to the nearest FAA office. Documentation must identify to and from dates, identify aircraft and/or engines, and specifically what you did on this equipment. You must have a minimum of 18 months practical experience on Airframe or Powerplant appropriate to the rating sought or at least 30 months of practical experience concurrently performing the duties appropriate to both Airframe and Powerplant to be signed off for both.

If you qualify for the fast track you do not need to go to an Aviation Maintenance Technician School
